ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Tanvee - the founder of The Desi Dictionary!
This all started when I wanted to teach my nephew Marathi, but we couldn’t read the script. So I created a simple, playful way to focus on speaking first using English script.
What began as a personal project is now growing into something bigger - a small but meaningful way for families like ours to connect with South Asian languages, one word at a time.
The Desi Dictionary is still just getting started, and I’m so excited to share this journey with you.
OUR STORY
The Desi Dictionary was created to help families pass down South Asian languages in a way that feels joyful, simple, and accessible - especially when reading or writing the script isn’t part of the picture.
It began with a book for my nephew, written in English letters so everyone in our multicultural family could join in. What started as a small family project quickly grew into something bigger - because so many others were searching for the same thing: a way to keep their language and culture alive, even across generations and continents.
We believe language learning should be warm, playful, and pressure-free — something that fits into everyday life.
Today, we offer early learning books in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Malayalam — and we’re just getting started. We hope to grow our collection to include festival books, cultural themes, and even more South Asian languages — all designed to help families connect, one joyful word at a time.
Let’s bridge the gap between the two scripts!
